Echuca-Moama, Bed & Breakfast heaven

See the paddlesteamers live on the Port of Echuca webcam - there's plenty of water in the Murray River and lot's of activity at the historic Port.

We know it's a big claim, but just look at what Echuca-Moama has to offer visitors to the region and we know you'll agree, Echuca on the Murray is definitely bed & breakfast heaven:

  • The iconic Murray River. Australia's largest river, renowned as the nation's food bowl. The Murray River comes closest to Melbourne at Echuca and is easily accessible for both Australian and international visitors.
  • Port of Echuca. The old wharf built in the 1800's takes you back in time to Australia's pioneering days when the paddlesteamers were the only contact many farmers along the Murray-Darling Rivers had with civilisation.
  • Paddlesteamers. Australia's largest gathering of paddlesteamers including Australia's oldest - PS Adelaide. You just have to take a trip on one.
  • Fine restaurants. There's so many excellent ones to choose from, check out Echuca's Restaurants all serve excellent meals!
  • Friendly pubs. There are some great ones in town including; the Shamrock, the Caledonian, the Echuca, The Star, the Bridge, the American, Tara's Hall, Harvest, Pastoral, Border Inn and the Moama Tavern. Competition is good and you can be assured of a warm welcome at any of these pubs.
  • For lover's of wine, the wineries.  Too many to name here, so we've included an echuca's wineries page. As well as wines, these wineries offer all sorts of unique experiences with picnics, lunch by the River, old churches, schools, museums and so much more.
  • Shopping. Yes, you'll get the retail therapy, with wonderful and unique boutique shops. We constantly get surprised how many of guests tell us they found something that delights them! Try Outdoor Habitat & Top Pots at 50 Heygarth Street, for some unique home & garden gifts!
  • Markets. There's a Farmer's Market offering wonderful produce in season and the Moama Up Market Craft & Produce Market offering many interesting stalls.
  • Aboriginal Art. Echuca boasts Murray River Galleries where you can find a great selection of original aboriginal art. Visit their website  Murray River Gallery
  • Weather.  The weather along the Murray is renowned. In the winter months, we get cold frosty nights and typically clear sunny days - perfect for walks and sightseeing. In the summer, we get a real summer - hot and dry, just right for sitting under a big tree or on the river bank. Follow this link to see Echuca weather at Elder's weather site.
  • Golf. There's the famous Rich River Golf Course (stay at McAuley's on Mayfield if you're a keen golfer). For those with limited time or wanting a less formal 9 holes there's Echuca City's Back9 golf course run by the YMCA volunteers - this could be Australia's friendliest course!
  • Fishing. In the Summer there's the elusive Murray Cod while in the Winter, fish for the Murray Cray.  Murray River Fishing provide a complete package and will take you to the best places - they'll even stop off at a winery for you sample a drop or two! The photo shows a Murray Cray ready for the BBQ.

  • Canoeing. Try a leisurely trip down either the Murray or the Goulburn Rivers. River Country Adventures can supply the canoes and a picnic lunch.  With luck, you might even see a platypus!
and then there's the iconic Murray River with river walks, wonderful bush scenery and plenty of spots to paddle or go for a swim.  (Photo shows a typical Murray River sunset - why not enjoy a glass of wine and look out over this marvellous bush scene?)

Hire a bicycle from On your Bike and cycle through the redgum forest along river tracks.

To see it properly take a scenic flight with Aus-Air over the mighty, winding Murray River!  They can take you to a winery for a sunset dinner or make a day of it and see the Long Paddock following the Cobb Highway along the old drover's route!

We've not mentioned everything, but rest assured your traditional B&B host will give you the best advice on what to do, where to eat and what to see!
